Abdelhak Benchikha Coach Profile | Kocha Mpya wa Simba

Benchikha embarked on his managerial career with CR Belouizdad, achieving consecutive league titles in 2000 and 2001. He briefly coached MC Alger and the Algerian Under-23 national team before returning to CR Belouizdad later in the 2004–05 season. His coaching journey then led him to Umm-Salal Sports Club in Qatar, where he secured their promotion to the top division in his sole season. Following this, he joined Tunisia’s ES Zarzis.

In June 2007, Benchikha signed with Club Africain in Tunisia, guiding them to a league victory in his first season and securing the North African Cup of Champions in the subsequent year. Despite an offered contract extension, Benchikha departed the club in March 2009.

He took over as coach of the Algeria A’ national team in June 2009, leading them to qualify for the 2011 African Nations Championship. Later that year, he was appointed as the coach of the Algerian national team but resigned in June 2011 following a defeat in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Morocco.

His managerial journey continued with stints at various clubs including Difaâ El Jadidi, Raja Casablanca, IR Tanger, Moghreb Tétouan, Mouloudia Oujda, DH El Jadida, RS Berkane in Morocco, Al-Ittihad Kalba in the United Arab Emirates, ES Sétif in Algeria, and Al-Ittihad Tripoli in Libya.

Benchikha joined USM Alger in December 2022, achieving success by winning the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Super Cup in 2023. However, he resigned in October 2023, citing reasons related to sporting and professional aspects, despite earlier reports suggesting insults directed towards him at a stadium entrance.

Throughout his managerial career, Benchikha earned several honors, including league titles and cup victories with various clubs such as CR Belouizdad, Umm Salal, Club Africain, Difaâ d’El Jadida, RS Berkane, and USM Alger.
